SEEDS EcoCorps Member
This is a temporary full time position working up to 35 hours a week.
Locations: Grand Traverse County, Newaygo County, Manistee County, Benzie county, and Otsego County
Summary
SEEDS EcoCorps crew members will add value to their communities, the environment and themselves through their dedicated service.
Crew members will participate in a rigorous program of work, education and training and complete environmental restoration, park maintenance, community service and building projects within Northern Michigan.
Crew members are responsible for following all rules and guidelines and adding positively to the crew.
Essential Duties
Serve on a crew, fully participating with crew members and under the direction of the Crew Leader on assigned environmental, conservation, energy efficiency, housing and human service projects.
Participate in projects, which will include one or more of the following:
Environmental conservation projects such as plantings, and removal of invasive species, building trails, viewing platforms, and boardwalks, performing cleanup or beautification.
Energy efficiency related projects include weatherizing, sealing doors/windows, and other energy conservation measures for homes and building especially those housing or serving low-income families.
Community services will include event and clean-up support to nonprofits, communicating with the public about issues related to energy, food, transportation and natural resources.
Participate in tool training and receive ongoing education and training on safety, Crew building, leadership, civic engagement, job skills and other environmental topics.
Other Responsibilities
Participate in recording daily events while on the job
Participate in daily morning communication huddle

Qualifications/Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, as all work projects are completed outside even during hot or cold weather, or rain (except in unsafe conditions such as lightning).
Desire and ability to:
Participate in vigorous outdoor work, lift and carry heavy loads up to 30-50 lbs, and walk long distances that could include distances equal to several miles
Able to use hands and body to operate tools and controls, as well as reach, pinch and grasp items with hands and arms
Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach up, or bend/lean down
Able to frequently walk, sit, talk, and listen
Must have close and far vision and ability to focus
Work with peers in conservation, education and recreation settings
Commit selves to SEEDS culture of safety and follow safety procedures
Practice strong work habits, environmental ethics and Crew unity
Display a positive attitude, interest in service and community work and desire to make a difference
Previous experience is not required
Working Conditions:
Work in crews of three to six+ members and a crew leader
Water is available and crew member is responsible for their lunch meal
Use provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – a hard helmet, steel-toed work boots, safety goggles and work gloves.
Rain gear is available if needed
Wear SEEDS EcoCorps work shirt, steel-toe work boots, long pants (no sweatpants, other loose sport pants, or shorts) and other appropriate outdoor attire that aligns with the current season
Work Projects:
Work project examples: brush hauling, rain garden installation, invasive plant removal, native plant installation, materials sorting, seed collection, light construction, energy conservation activities, wildlife habitat construction and maintenance, ecological restoration and leading volunteers
Work Schedule:
Hours are primarily weekdays between 8 a.
m.
and 5 p.
m.
Some travel (provided) and weekend scheduling may be required
