*Stewardship Technician Internship - Spring/Summer 2024* Missaukee Conservation District is seeking a Stewardship Technician Intern to assist with development and maintenance activities on an 83-acre parcel of land.
Trail building, signage installation, timeline implementation, pollinator planting, and more will take place working with current staff and volunteers.
The intern will work in a welcoming, fun office environment or on the land (future home of the Jamieson Nature Education Center) with staff and volunteers.
This internship is intended for a college sophomore-level student or above, or a recent graduate.
The position will average 24 hours per week (three days per week), beginning in May 2023 and continues for 16 weeks, approximately 385 hours.
Normal work hours occur between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Conservation District is a local unit of government that provides technical expertise on conservation projects to farms, landowners, individuals and public entities in Missaukee County.
*Position Duties & Responsibilities:* 1.
Land management: § Learn management plan timeline.
§ Develop trails.
§ Research signage and install.
§ Assist Outreach Coordinator in achieving goals for property.
2.
Community engagement: § Assist with outreach programs such as Native Plant Sale.
§ Provide educational presentations to libraries and Let’s Learn Lake City.
§ Promote soil sampling program.
§ Manage Fishing Line Recycling program.
3.
Assist with volunteer recruitment.
4.
Create and distribute promotional materials as assigned.
5.
Shadow MCD staff to understand roles and responsibilities.
*Qualifications:* 1.
Have completed the first year of an undergraduate program.
2.
Currently enrolled in relevant field of study (natural resources, agriculture, forestry, biology, conservation, etc.
).
3.
Valid driver’s license.
4.
Reliable personal transportation.
5.
U.
S.
Citizen or Permanent Resident.
6.
A 3.
0 minimum grade point average on a 4.
0 scale.

Strong social and interpersonal skills.

Very strong communication skills- both written and verbal.
3.
Entrepreneurial and able to solve problems independently and creatively.
4.
Self-motivated and goal oriented.
5.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
6.
Excellent computer skills are required.
Computer workstation will be provided, including a standard PC with Windows-based software.
7.
Able to work cooperatively with district personnel and other agencies.
8.
Able to work efficiently outdoors in varying conditions and rough terrain; must be able to lift 20 lbs.
9.
Regular travel to event and field locations around the county is required.
*Benefits, Work Hours, Location* This position will be based in Lake City, Michigan.
Work time will be generally split between the MCD office and field work.
The Missaukee Conservation District office is located in downtown Lake City at 101 S.
Main Street, Lake City, MI 49651.
This is a temporary, (estimated 24 hours per week) part-time position.
Typical work hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
Upon successful completion of internship, a $1000 scholarship will be awarded; if graduated it can be applied to student loans.
Mileage at current IRS rate will be reimbursed for travel with District Manager’s prior approval.
