POSITION SUMMARY:
The Alma College Department of Theatre and Dance seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment that incorporates student instruction and choreographing student dance concerts to begin August 2024.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching responsibilities include intermediate and advanced technique courses in modern, ballet, and a contemporary form that draws upon research outside of the traditional European vernacular, choreography, somatics, improvisation, dance history, dance criticism and other courses depending on department needs and candidate’s expertise.
Typical teaching load is six units per year.
Production responsibilities include choreographing for two major dance concerts each year and mentoring student creative work in student choreographer concerts.
Alma College’s dance program is committed to engaging with the greater campus community as well as the surrounding community of Gratiot County, Michigan.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated practices in making dance accessible and meaningful to students and community members who do not predominantly identify as dancers.
As Director of Dance, additional duties include mentoring students, serving on department and college committees, and advising.
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in administrative tasks such as academic scheduling, budgeting, student recruitment and retention, interdisciplinary collaboration, and curriculum design.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An MFA or Ph.
D.
in dance, college-level teaching experience, and professional performance and choreographic experience, are required.
