*Director of Resident Care*
*POSITION SUMMARY *
As the Director of Resident Care you will plan, organize, develop and direct the overall clinical operations of the home in accordance with current federal, state, and local licensing requirements to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
You will participate in the budgeting process with the Administrator and be responsible for working within budget guidelines as it relates to resident care.
You will also participate in hiring, training, and developing staff.
*KEY GOALS OF DIRECTOR* * To ensure provision of high quality resident care * To work within budget as it relates to resident care * To provide leadership to resident care staff * To ensure low turnover of resident care staff and assist with staff recruitment as needed *RESIDENT CARE* * Responsible for making daily resident rounds and communicating pertinent resident information to appropriate persons.
* Assure overall care and appearance of residents, i.
e.
, cleanliness, neatness, good grooming and evidence of proper ADL care being delivered.
* Assure appropriate resident /staff ratios based on resident needs.
* Monitor overall quality/cleanliness of physical plant during daily rounds, including neatness of individual rooms and absence or presence of odors; ensure beds are made daily and changed when necessary—Report improperly functioning facility features to maintenance staff.
* Make rounds with physicians and communicate new orders to staff as indicated.
* Review completed medical history and physical examination forms, and meet with prospective residents, family members and responsible parties to assess and clarify admittance criteria, services, and functions.
* Oversee completion of resident functional assessment (30 days after admission) to determine whether care needs and plan of care continue to be appropriate.
Revise plan of care, as necessary.
* Schedule, coordinate and document regular care conferences.
Enforce care conference procedures to ensure proper revenues are secured; to provide regular and consistent communication with new residents and family members; to foster satisfaction and establish relationships; and to facilitate completion of annual state paperwork.
* Develop resident care plans and ensure regular updating by clinical staff.
* Ensure resident functional assessments are completed on each resident quarterly, or when change in condition/care needs occur.
* Participate in the delivery of resident care, when indicated.
* Implement/maintain resident schedules (bathing, turning, toileting, etc.
) * Assure staff assignments are assigned and completed appropriately.
* Execute medical orders to ensure high quality healthcare for each resident.
* Assure physician orders and treatment plans are processed and being carried out as ordered.
* Track/follow-up on lab and x-ray reports and communicate with physicians/family members as needed.
* Interact/follow-up with patients and families, act as liaison between Dept.
heads, residents and families, physicians.
* Refer residents/families to proper community agencies as necessary.
*BUDGET* * Develop nursing department budget in conjunction with Administrator and Regional Director.
* Possess awareness of facility budget and do not exceed projected financial targets.
Utilize cost control tools and track spending on medical/nursing supplies (descending balance sheet).
* Incorporate budget discussions into staff meetings.
* Responsible for coordinating ordering and re-ordering of medical/nursing supplies.
* Review and approve employee time cards for payroll purposes.
* Maintain turnover/labor hours at budgeted levels.
* Prepare and submit timely/accurate financial and operational reports to Administrator.
*LEADERSHIP* * Lead by example in professional appearance, maintenance of ethical standards, and compliance with company policies and procedures, and overall attitude and behavior.
* Gain understanding of AFC licensing regulations.
* Ensure confidentiality of resident health information in accordance with HIPAA.
* Report issues with the delivery of resident care to the Administrator.
* Oversee medication audits in accordance with company policies and procedures to ensure resident safety, accuracy of medication administration, and effectiveness of security measures.
* Continue to develop processes/procedures that maximize efficiencies and reduce labor hours.
* Work with other department managers to coordinate quality services and products provided to residents.
* Attend mandatory in services and other continuing education activities to grow as a leader and be current in your field of work.
* Support, reinforce, communicate, and defend the mission, vision, values, philosophy and culture of the organization.
* Perform other duties as assigned by management.
*STAFFING* * Monitor and review daily work schedules to ensure efficiencies.
* Assist Administrator with interviewing staff, hiring process, performance appraisals, and disciplinary process.
* Assist in orientation of staff to job responsibilities.
* Supervise staff scheduling process.
* Assist in developing staff leadership and communication skills.
Communicate company expectations and hold staff accountable.
* Maintain effective working relationships and communication with department heads/Administrator.
* Seek input from resident care staff concerning their ideas, opinions, and developmental needs.
* Participate in orientation of resident care staff.
* Attend scheduled staff meetings and leadership team meetings.
* Support employee recognition program.
* Maintain updated emergency procedures and telephone numbers and review with staff.
* Participate in emergency drills (i.
e.
, fire drills, elopement drills, etc.
) according to policy and procedure.
* Report work injuries to the Administrator before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
*QUALIFICATIONS* * A passion for our mission of caring for people as they age.
* Two year degree from an accredited institution, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
* 3 years of experience in assisted living or long term care facility, OR a combination of education and experience.
* Must be able to operate blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, diabetic equipment, needles, syringes and any other specialized medical equipment as needed to provide resident care.
* Previous supervisory experience preferred.
* Excellent computer skill and proficient in Microsoft Office and other software programs used byBaruch.
* Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
