ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Regularly patrol campus grounds, buildings, surrounding community via foot, bike, and vehicle.
Make regular tours of campus buildings, performing lock and unlock functions, and checking for unauthorized use.
Voluntarily initiate and/or take assigned written and verbal complaint reports on all incidents of crime, suspicious persons or circumstances, motor vehicle accidents, or circumstances that might pose questionable liability to the college.
Interview victims, complaints, witnesses, and suspects relative to investigations and prepare related documentation and reports.
Conduct regular checks of parking lots, enforce parking regulations, and check for signs of criminal activity.
Provide traffic control as needed and assigned.
Acts as the first contact for after-hours maintenance and custodial problems.
Respond to areas on campus in all emergency situations including circumstances involving police, fire, and medical personnel.
Render emergency assistance to members of the Carthage College community as necessary.
Act quickly, instill calm, and determine appropriate actions during emergencies and critical situations.
Work closely with members of Student Affairs in communicating and investigating concerns.
Provide crisis intervention as needed.
Generate a full report of activities and incidents in an accurate and timely manner.
Advocate for campus safety and security issues and needs.
Enforce rules, regulations, and policies.
Assist law enforcement in enforcing appropriate statutes, ordinances, and traffic laws.
Act as a cooperative liaison with Kenosha Police Department patrol and investigate units.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate degree preferred.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered instead of a degree.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years’ experience as a public safety professional on a college campus or similar environment preferred, with a demonstrated ability to communicate with students.
Working knowledge of both federal and state law enforcement rules and regulations.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a diverse college setting are essential.
Experience working with culturally diverse populations is desirable.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Trained in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS).
Valid Driver’s License with good driving history required.
Ability to be available 24/7 in the case of emergency and periodic supervisory presence on all shifts.
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR LICENSURE: Working knowledge of both federal and state law enforcement rules and regulations.
Ability to organize, coordinate student programming.
Ability to interpret institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules, and regulations, and communicate this information to the campus community.
Ability to prepare and present detailed studies and reports.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to prepare and deliver presentations before small, medium, and large groups of people.
