Patient Care Technician III Michigan, Petoskey NEW Service/Support McLaren Northern Michigan 24000480 POSITION SUMMARY The PCT III is responsible for supporting patient care delivery by working in partnership with the health care team, patient/family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes, and organizational goals.
Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support, activities of daily living, processing physician orders, maintaining patient records, managing patient information, scheduling, and providing customer service.
The PCT III will be responsible for phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, and cardiac telemetry monitoring when in CVU.
This individual has excellent organization and communication skills (written and verbal).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates professional and courteous skills in all modes of communication (phone, email, fax, one on one, call system, etc.
) Demonstrates an understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to colleague and patient records to protect colleague, patient, and hospital adhering to privacy and confidential mandates.
Takes initiative in expanding job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change.
Monitors centralized telemetry monitoring when assigned as tele HUC in CVU.
Report abnormal rhythms or changes in rhythms to the appropriate nurse.
Assists in orientation of new colleagues and provides education to peers.
Demonstrates higher collaboration with colleagues to resolve patient care issues by participating in care conferences to improve patient care.
Acts as a resource for other PCTs and HUCs Conducts training to other PCTs for patient care equipment.
Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care.
Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, phlebotomy, EKGs as required in specific work areas, Reports observations, including any change in patient status to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.
Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support.
Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.
Performs patient safety rounds: offer toileting, position changes, access to personal items, pain assessment, etc.
Obtains 12-lead EKG as needed specific to working unit as directed by the Nurse.
Performs phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process, and submission to the lab.
Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.
Works Collaboratively with customers to ensure that accurate clerical information is obtained and distributed in a timely and confidential manner.
Completes documents legibly and accurately enters orders into the Hospital Information System in a timely manner.
Completes HUC tasks and clipboards timely.
Initiates and maintains medical record organization from admission through transfer and or discharge consistent with the standards established by MNM.
Both electronic and paper chart checks are completed per policy.
Accurately captures charges to support correct patient billing.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED High School diploma or equivalent with training on personal computers (with different applications), general office equipment uses and procedures.
BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
Certification must be issued directly by the American Heart Association (AHA), or American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent.
Complete and Pass the HUC telemetry monitoring class through MNM and maintain skill through annual competency testing.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED Prior experience in direct patient care preferred.
CENA training preferred.
Prior experience could be obtained through clinical nursing rotation relevant to the specific work area.
Coursework in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology preferred.
Certification may be obtained (CHUC – certified health unit coordinator) through the national Association for Health Unit Coordinators.
