The Traffic Engineer I work ensures the safe and efficient operation of City streets by leading, overseeing, and performing advanced level traffic engineering studies, traffic complaint investigation, traffic plan review, signal system design, monitoring and control, and field and office engineering.
Work involves responsibility for the application of engineering skills and knowledge to moderately difficult engineering projects in conjunction with the design, construction, inspection, evaluation or maintenance of public infrastructure or municipal projects.
Serves as the lead engineering staff for the Traffic Committee.
Has a focus on traffic and mobility safety.
Lead, plan, train, and supervise the work of seasonal data collection staff responsible for traffic and transportation engineering.
Work assignments afford the opportunity for independent judgment in planning, data acquisition and analysis or in making technical decisions and are performed under the supervision of the City Engineer.
The expected hiring range for the position is $68,358.
14 - $73,226.

*Education, Training and Experience:* ✓ Educational requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
✓ Two or more years of progressive experience in traffic engineering design and / or analysis.
✓ Experience using AutoCad and geographic information systems (GIS) applications preferred.
*Licensing and Other Requirements:* ✓ Shall be certified by the State of Michigan to monitor Part 91 of the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Program of the City within 90 working days of date of hire.
✓ Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license ✓ Must have passed Engineer-In-Training (EIT) exam, but licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.
E.
) is preferred.
