Summary:
This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
The PCT performs and assists with individual activities of daily living as well as certain treatments for patient care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse according to established policies, procedures and guidelines.
The PCT will also perform general clerical duties for the nursing unit and function as a resource person to others on the unit.
Responsibilities: (40%)* Under the direction of the nurse, prioritizes and organizes care of assigned patients, performing basic nurse's aide skills as outlined in orientation, competencies, policy and procedures.
(20%)* Documents on patient's chart, any treatments and pertinent observations.
Provides report to team on tasks completed.
(20%)* Maintains a clean, safe and orderly unit.
(20%)* Performs general receptionist duties for the unit/department including the answering of the phone, referring calls, answering intercom, taking of messages, ordering supplies, directing visitors, patient's families, employees and other members of the public to the appropriate areas of the hospital.

Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures.
Emergency care/safety: Performs according to procedure in all hospital emergency situations.

Possesses an understanding of infection prevention and control measures designed to prevent the spread of infectious disease.
Maintains patient rights and confidentiality.
Provides excellent customer service.

Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and reports pertinent data to the physician.

Participates in regulatory surveys.
Participates in the performance improvement activities, quality initiatives programs, and patient experience initiatives.
Assists with orientation and ongoing competencies.
Provides a safe and secure environment for patient care.
Demonstrates understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures.
Obtains and organizes charts and paperwork for incoming patients daily.
Calls physicians' offices to obtain all necessary paperwork for each patient.
Performs general clerical duties such as copying, filing and faxing.
Maintains a clean and tidy work area daily.
Demonstrates customer service evidence by greeting all members of the community upon entry into the unit.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED required Certifications and Licensures: PCT: MMH PCT/CNA/EMT/LPN Certification required Equivalent Experience: Must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the state of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program, or a Medical Assistant with the following: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc.

Unit education/orientation within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Orientation to all other inpatient units and the emergency department within 6 months of hire or transfer.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
ls able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs.
