This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Patriot Place Shelter and the Patriot Place Safe Haven housing units.
Available to work scheduled rotating shifts, including overnights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
Essential Functions: Intake and orientation to new shelter guests.
Knowledge and understanding of the Patriot Place policies and procedures as written in the Patriot Place handbook, and responsible for upholding, assisting with interpretation, and enforcing with guests.
Responsible for the safety of all guests and visitors and compliance with Patriot Place policies.
Responsible for maintaining the safety of Patriot Place properties and grounds.
Primary Responsibilities: 1.
Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
2.
Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
3.
Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
4.
Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
5.
Ensure the confidentiality of all persons served.
6.
Provide a safe, dignified and respectful environment for all persons served.
7.
Knowledge of emergency procedures to safely evacuate units and shelter guests for emergencies or to move guests to a designated safe area according to established procedures as indicated in other emergencies.
8.
Ensure the compliance with Patriot Place policy on drugs, alcohol, and violence.
9.
Responsible for accurately recording incidents, accidents, and significant events in accordance with Goodwill Northern Michigan’s policies and procedures.
10.
Monitor incoming and outgoing guests and visitors to the shelter.
11.
Ensure all guests depart the Patriot Place grounds by 10pm.
12.
Provide community resource information as needed.
13.
Accept donations from the community and document donations; issue receipts as required.
14.
Provide Inter-agency communication as necessary to secure emergency lodging or assistance for those who must be turned away when the shelter is at capacity.
15.
Assist or attend to an ill or injured person within certification guidelines after summoning professional 911 emergency medical care.
16.
Monitor surveillance cameras to ensure safety withing each unit.
17.
Attend trainings and staff meetings as scheduled.
18.
Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Reports to: Program Director Supervises: Volunteers Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required; some college in human services field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Knowledge and understanding of circumstances and issues of homelessness.
Previous experience in counseling, human services, housing, substance abuse and/or job placement preferred.
Good phone etiquette, able to type 30wpm and basic computer knowledge.
Able to multitask.
Physical & Other Requirements: Standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, bending, kneeling, reaching, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, hearing, seeing, twisting, turning and repetitive movement.
Ability to do medium lifting, 20-30 pounds, and occasional heavy lifting.
On call 24/7 on a rotational or as needed basis.
Able to sit, stand, work at a computer, bend, kneel, twist.
This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to zero tolerance under the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Drug Free Workplace Policy.
