Position Details PRINCIPAL – GRAYLING MIDDLE SCHOOL The Principal is responsible for the educational leadership for Grayling Middle School and other areas under the Principal’s duties.
This position will model and advance the CASD values of integrity, teamwork, accountability, and learning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, Master’s Degree in School Administration or a related field, or possess an administration certification.
Five years of educational experience.
Elementary and/or middle school administration preferred.
Demonstrated classroom teaching ability.
Experience supervising and evaluating staff.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience and ability to develop, implement, and evaluate instructional curricula.
Demonstrated knowledge of State Content Standards and Benchmarks, Literacy Essentials, PSAT, SAT, MSTEP/MME, NWEA, and the local board-adopted curriculum.
Knowledge of the 5D+ Rubric for Instructional Growth and Teacher Evaluation.
Experience with Student Information Systems (Skyward), classroom assessment, and iXL.

Provide overall leadership and support for the building and work to strengthen the faculty and shape strong professional growth for all professional and support staff members.
Oversee the daily operations to meet building and student needs.
Ultimately responsible for the master class and operations schedule for the building.
Provide a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.
Assist with hiring and retaining highly qualified staff.
Lead mentor/mentee induction program.
Align and implement National/State standards and assessments within the curriculum.
Ensure that all students are prepared for State Testing, as well as adhere to all assessment responsibilities and guidelines.
Participate in and provide leadership to the School Improvement Team regarding instructional strategies and assessment, as well as creating and implementing building improvement plans and troubleshooting building concerns.
Participate in the District Improvement Team (CAIT).
Chair district core curriculum committees as assigned.
Work to see that the needs (enrichment, remediation, special education) of all students are being met.
This includes disaggregating data, tracking student achievement, planning and implementing summer school and other programs to support achievement.
Plan and implement professional development opportunities for all staff members (certified and support staff).
Communicate clearly and have positive relationships with students, families, staff, board, administration, and community.
Encourage and develop family engagement in the educational process.
Deal effectively with the media.
Develop and implement effective student discipline plans.
Work with the District and building staff to develop building budgets for the effective use of resources, as well as oversee and authorize all purchases and bills.
Work with staff to develop an annual building calendar and annual building schedules.
Assigns students to teachers.
Remains current with state law and other initiatives.
Develop the skills and knowledge base required to implement those changes.
Work in collaboration with the Special Education service coordinator for the building and participate in IEP meetings for students in the building when requested.
Assist with 504 meetings when requested.
Coordinate all activities for instructional paraprofessionals, including evaluation, monitoring of duties, scheduling and assignment of duties, and meeting with them regularly to assure the quality of delivery.
Coordinate volunteers including NEMSCA Foster Grandparents, RSVP, Preservice Teachers, Student Teachers, etc.
Serves on district and building level committees.
Serve as the district coordinator of early-on services for pre-school aged children and for pre-school aged children who have been identified as eligible for special education services.
Works calendar as determined by the Superintendent.
Follows all Board Policies.
Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
