46 Eligible Employer for Public Student Loan Forgiveness as a non-profit Position Summary: Under the supervision of Tribal School Principal, provide Anishinaabe Culture and Language instruction to students and staff and collaborate with academic teachers in all grade levels at the Tribal School.
All education staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and provide Anishnaabemowin (Ojibwe Culture and Language) support to students in all grades and Tribal Education Department programs.
Develop cultural programs designed to accommodate the educational, social, emotional, creative, and learning needs of students.
Establish and maintain a safe, effective, and respectful learning environment for all children using classroom management skills.
Develop culturally significant and language-rich lesson plans and learning experiences that align with Tribal Education Advisory Board approved education standards.
Provide individualized and small group culturally relevant learning experiences to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
Learn best practice methods/procedures to ensure the appropriateness of learning materials and lessons for children from toddler to young adolescents.
Develop self-respect and pride within youth and enhance their role in their families and community through the use of traditional activities and project-based learning.
Evaluate student cultural growth through balanced assessment; keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports as required.
Provide, interpret, and analyze data that relates to cultural and language development.
Create a functional learning environment and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student`s work.
Engage parents in the educational process.
Act as a resource for classroom teachers to enrich academic lessons with culture and language.
Collaborate with other tribal programs to ensure a holistic approach within the learning environment.
Work with Tribal Education Department staff for purposes of planning, scheduling, decision making, problem solving, etc.
Assist in developing Anishinaabe Culture and Language curriculum and create teaching materials and manipulatives.
Provide cultural professional development for education staff.
Participate in appropriate workshops, seminars, meetings and courses as approved or recommended.
Assists the tribal community with various cultural support requests.
Attend school-wide extra-curricular, parent and community meetings, activities and events.
Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all other privacy regulations.
Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times.
Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts: Contact with students in a school environment.
Contact and communicate with students, parents, fellow staff members, other Tribal agencies, other schools, educators, and elders for the benefit and development of the Tribal School students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
Knowledge of education principles and practices and curriculum development.
Knowledge in records management.
Skill in teaching children in K-12 grades.
Ability to identify and harvest traditional plants and medicines.
Ability to be organized and effectively listen to and respond to patron inquiries.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to represent organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence in the community.
Ability to lead and guide the work of others.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Physical Demands: Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
Required to stand for extended periods of time.
Occasionally walk and stand.
Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment: Normal office and school environment.
Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials Work may be performed in wet, damp and cramped or close work area.
Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
Exposure to childhood colds, viruses.
Travel may be required.
Job Requirements High School Diploma or GED.
Must have knowledge and be willing to share original Anishinaabe cultural teachings.
Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications: Experience working with school age children.
Bachelor`s degree in related field.
Proficiency in speaking the Ojibwe Language.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements: Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within probationary period.
Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver`s License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver`s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
