Job Description: Shift: Second Shift,Rotating *Fall 2024 start date A global destination for artists and arts enthusiasts, Interlochen Center for the Arts nurtures creativity through five dynamic platforms: Interlochen Arts Camp, the renowned summer arts program; Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school; Interlochen Presents, a producer of more than 600 annual performances by internationally celebrated guest artists, Interlochen students, and faculty; Interlochen Public Radio, two listener-supported, 24-hour public radio stations (classical music and news); and Interlochen College of Creative Arts, a convener for lifelong learning in the arts.
Job Summary: The Instructor of Residence Life is a live-in teaching position that is responsible for building community and caring for students in a designated area of the Residence Halls.
Instructors of Residence Life are members of the faculty and are responsible for developing educational programming, instructing students on life skills, advising and mediating student concerns, enforcing policy, creating safe communities, advising student groups, and developing other special projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Instructs students in the areas of living skills, social-emotional learning, and behavioral growth.
Provides care and a variety of direct support services to students in a residential setting and assists with the oversight of the residential education program.
Responsible for the implementation of educational and social learning that develop social and emotional skills, student leadership, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, and are developmentally appropriate.
Builds and provides freedoms and structures that contribute to the overall learning and development of the student as appropriate for the variety of age levels we serve.
Facilitates the development of communities that are welcoming and accepting of people of all races and ethnicities, abilities, ages, genders, national origins, religions, and sexual orientations.
Supports leadership development for students in a variety of areas including academics, student groups, student representative board, programming and international student liaisons, and health and wellness.
Builds relationships with a variety of campus partners in an effort to strengthen student supports tailored to their students’ needs.
Responsible for detailed administrative and record-keeping tasks related to the care of students.
Provides detailed narratives to the student and family through the grade reporting process relating to personal growth and skill development.
Assesses and mediates student conflict and has the skills to sufficiently listen to and summarize individual and group concerns.
Interprets and enforces policies and procedures that relate to student conduct concerns.
As an active, live-in member of a diverse campus community, actively engages students in programming and conversations about diversity and social justice and confronts situations of bias that result from lack of understanding.
Experience and Skills: Bachelor’s degree required Experience mentoring/guiding young people preferred Experience with the Google Suite preferred Ability to set clear expectations and boundaries and hold students accountable Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through Ability to work as a team member and lead by example Ability to respond to crisis situations in a calm manner Due to the nature of the work, and the combined work/living arrangement, candidates must possess both physical and emotional stamina Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders Ability to demonstrate respect for cultural, ethnic, spiritual and linguistic diversity and values including differences in personal goals, lifestyle choices and varying family backgrounds and histories.
