) FLSA: Exempt Temporary/Continuing: Continuing Part-Time/Full-Time: Full-Time Union Group: Ferris Faculty Association (MEA-NEA) Term of Position: 9 Month At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause Summary of Position: The College of Engineering Technology (CET) at Ferris State University invites applicants for a tenure track position in the discipline of Electronics and Automation Engineering Technology (EAET).
This position combines relevant experience in electronics and automation for a new program in the School of Engineering and Computing Technology (SECT).
The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach courses, as well as develop and teach labs primarily focused, but not limited to automation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motors and variable frequency drives (VFDs), digital logic and communication networks for automation systems as well as other courses in relevant technological areas.
The successful candidate will also be instrumental in continuous improvement and curriculum development in accordance with ABET accreditation criteria.
Interfacing with industry and external agencies to direct the growth and development of the program will be expected in activities such as senior projects, grants, and advisory roles.
The anticipated start date of this position is August 2024 at the earliest and January 2025 at the latest.
Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: 1.
Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology or a closely related field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught OR 2.
A master’s or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Electrical/Electronics and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught OR 3.
A bachelor’s degree in field and 7 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught with the ability to obtain a Master’s degree within 5 years of the date of hire.
Required Work Experience: Industrial experience with automation and PLC programming.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Physical Demands: Office Environment Bending Carrying Moving Reaching Sitting Twisting Balancing Lifting Pulling/Pushing Repetitive movement Standing Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: • Experience with Rockwell Automation products, HMIs, Studio 5000, RSLogix, Allen Bradley ProFlex VFDs.
• Proficiency with control system instrumentation, transducers, sensors, and ancillary components as well as wired and wireless communication standards and plant-wide integration including VFDs, SCADA, HMI, and ladder logic or similar topics.
• Knowledge and understanding of industrial networks and hardware for connection of control system components and instrumentation which spans fiber, wired and wireless systems such as Control Net, Device Net, Ethernet I/P, ASI, Modbus, CAN bus, I2C etc.
• Communication skills (both written and oral) commensurate with the delivery of exceptional instruction in an educational engineering environment both in the classroom and laboratory for a diverse audience.
Able to collaborate with faculty, students, and administrators to foster excellence in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Commit to student success through advising, recruiting, curriculum development and assessment.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teaching courses in the Electronics and Automation Engineering Technology (EAET) bachelor's degree program.
Responsible for the timely grading of course materials, the timely return of graded course materials, and the timely submission of course grades.
Advising students.
Developing and delivering curriculum.
Recruiting students.
Developing industry relationships.
Serving on department, college, and/or university committees.
Reports to the Director of the School of Engineering and Computing Technology through the EAET Program Coordinator.
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information and performing duties incompliance with applicable policies and procedures.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in University committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex.
reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on-time).
Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the classification area.
