Job Description Overview A Programmer / Analyst is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of computer software programs, applications, and databases.
The work performed by the programmer/analyst is in support of the American Proficiency Institute (API), one of the largest providers of proficiency testing (PT) in the U.
S.
API provides PT for over 20,000 clinical laboratories and is well-known for the quality of their service and customer interface applications.
LGC Proficiency Testing is part of the LGC Clinical Diagnostics Division, which develops and manufactures a comprehensive portfolio of quality solutions and component materials for the extended life sciences industry.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain software programs in support of the needs of the API proficiency programs and LGC PT’s role as a service provider to API.
Communicate with stakeholders to learn and document requirements to create technical specifications.
Respond to support tickets from stakeholders according to company procedures.
Debug programs when problems arise; work with users and other programmers to troubleshoot.
Maintain proficiency in the various programming languages used within the company.
Use the appropriate development tools and follow established programming techniques.
Follow all documentation requirements and maintain excellent project history files for all software code written.
Maintain an understanding of the data structures, their relationships, and how to access data in the appropriate manner.
Understand the various business systems (Order Processing and Accounting for example) and the relationships between them.
Understand the flow of the business, as well as the way in which the systems are used by stakeholders.
Maintain an awareness of new technical developments.
Accept responsibility to identify improvement opportunities and make recommendations for enhancing user value.
Other Duties and Responsibilities Other duties as assigned.
Authority Programmer / Analysts have the explicit authority and resources to: Identify departures from the management system and/or company policies/procedures.
Initiate actions within the limits of their position to prevent or minimize departures from the management system.
Reporting Structure Programmers / Analysts report to the Senior Programmer / Analyst but are also accountable to the General Manager.
Programmer / Analysts do not supervise any other positions.
Programmer / Analysts work as a team with all other departments.
Qualifications Credentials and Experience Required: Four-year degree in Computer Science or related field Preferred: 2-3 years of database experience preferred Understanding of data processing concepts Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Traits Considerable knowledge of database programs and applications Practical knowledge of Windows, SQL, various programming languages, and network concepts Ability to learn and use new software packages quickly Ability to work well with people in a team environment Ability to multitask and to work independently Ability to be tactful and diplomatic with customers, outside organizations, and coworkers Knowledge of web-based programming languages and tools Full stack development capabilities – expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies Additional Information All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
