Overview: As the Cost Estimator you will take the lead to analyze customer drawings, specifications, proposals, CAD models and related inputs collaborating with manufacturing & application engineers to validate design for manufacture (DFM) and prepare detailed bill of material (BOM), process routings, material costs, equipment set-up times, intercompany costs, tooling requirements with the end goal to roll-up a final product cost estimate to ensure MEC quote’s products profitability.
This position will require cross functional engagement with customers, purchasing, manufacturing, sales, finance, and leadership.
In addition, this position will support continuous improvement and documentation of routing processes / quote tables by part attributes and machine capabilities and support best in class supplier competitiveness.
Responsibilities: Collaborate with customers and sales to ensure all necessary documents for customer RFQ’s are received and documented - drawings, specifications, CAD models, Directed-buy costs & suppliers, etc Determines material, machines, routings, labor, and process requirements.
Create and calculate product total cost estimates for MEC sales and management to use for quoting, capacity planning for manpower availability & equipment utilization, tooling, and capital requirements.
Interacts with Customers, Sales, Mfg.
Engineering, Purchasing, Operations, Finance, and others to obtain and provide information necessary to resolve issues and establish an accurate estimate.
Establishes setup and run rates and related cost data.
Enter all relevant data into a computerized quote program.
Presents a formalized cost estimate to Sales which is used to establish selling prices to bid on future profitable work.
Consolidates large program cost details into a summary for extended labor and equipment capacity prior to quoting.
Supports customers ad-hoc cost analysis requests for should-costs / cost transparences templates and VAVE projects.
Qualifications: Associate Degree (A.
A.
) from a technical college or HS Diploma with significant work experience and post-high school courses related to Industrial or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
A minimum of three to seven years of experience in tubular products, metal paint/metal finish and sheet metal fabrication and assembly are a plus.
